Alright, Now for the Actual Information

Hello, all!

Our first meeting will either be right before December break, or the week that we get back from the break, on Wednesdays. So make sure that you've finished the book by then!

I'll be leading the first discussion, so don't worry about any of that! Just come prepared, meaning that you've read as much of the book as you can, and are willing to participate in discussion!

So: Our first book is The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini. I know that many of you have copies or have reveived school copies of it from me. For those of you still in need of a copy, please see me or Mrs. Barley A.S.A.P. We have copies from other school libraries that are available. If you do get one of these, remember that they do not belong to us, so TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEM, AND DO NOT LOSE THEM! Another resource that you can use is the public library catalog: catalog.onlib.org . Either way, you should definitely have a copy of the book by Thanksgiving break. Make sure you get some good reading in!

In terms of a charity for this book, I was considering Trust In Education, a group that provides for children and families in Afghanistan. We would either collect monetary donations or collect items that they need. For more information on this charity, go to http://www.trustineducation.org/index.html . For a list of donations that they need, go to http://www.trustineducation.org/TIE%20Donation%20list.html . Another good resource for this book is Mr. Hosseini's website, www.khaledhosseini.com . You'll find information about his book and about Afghanistan-related charities. I believe that with one of his suggested charities, we'll be able to make a big difference!

I am also currently taking suggestions for our following books after this one. Remember that copies of the book must be easy to get, and that the books must be short enough to be read in one month. I'm open to suggestions, and I've already gotten some great ones!

Also... I'll need your contact info at the first discussion, so that I can get books to you in a more organized way. A phone number and email should be fine. Just have it available. Would it be good for me to create a Facebook group so that I can contact all of the Facebook users through that? Let me know, mama.yugonetski@gmail.com, or shining_stars1@verizon.net. Thanks so much, everyone! Happy reading!

-Brianna
